Press Release 17.09.2019

The Best Beer In Finland -gala was held onboard Viking Grace on Friday 13.09.2019. HIISI was awarded with two category wins, continuing the brewery’s uninterrupted run of wins to three years in a row.

This year, Ikiiurso Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (12,0%) picked up the ”Best Stout” -category (for the second year in a row), whereas the brewery’s first-ever product Rakki Forestfinnish Pale Ale (5,5%) picked up the ”Best European Ale” -category.

The Best Beer In Finland -competition is one of seven competitions that are certified by the European Consumer Union (ECBU). Other Certified competitions include the European Beer Star, World Beer Cup, Birra dell’Anno, Brussels Beer Challenge, Dutch Beer Challenge, and Austrian Beer Challenge.

”As the evaluation method in this competition is a blind tasting, one has to be extra grateful for these awards. This competition is no fluke and, having tasted many of the finalists myself, the quality of competition was excellent. We have now won the Stout-category three times in a row (once with Iku-Turso, twice with Ikiiurso) which is absolutely fantastic. But it was extra-special this year that our first ever product, Rakki Forestfinnish Pale Ale, picked up a championship as well!” – Mikko Mäkelä, Panimoyhtiö Hiisi Oy.

All previous HIISI-championships in the competition now include:

Ikiiurso Imperial Stout, 2019
Ikiiurso Imperial Stout, 2018
Iku-Turso Imperial Stout, 2017
Donut Island Andrea Sour Cherry Berliner Weisse 2017
